Geography & Society
Cambodia lies in the heart of Southeast Asia, shaped by the mighty Mekong and the Tonle Sap. It is a land of contrasts – between booming cities like Siem Reap and the hard life in the rural provinces. The society is young, dynamic, and firmly rooted in its traditions.
A Moving History
The dark years of the Khmer Rouge (1975–1979) have left a deep mark on the country. Almost a third of the population lost their lives, and the education system was completely destroyed. Today, Cambodia is working tirelessly to heal these wounds – through education and preservation of cultural heritage.
Economic Upheaval & Hurdles
In the last two decades, Cambodia has caught up economically – mainly through the textile industry, construction, and tourism. However, the pandemic hit the country hard economically, especially in rural areas.
Education as a Chance for Tomorrow
Education is the key to the future, but access is often unequal. In rural areas, resources are often lacking, and many children must contribute to the family income. Our project work starts exactly here to give children a perspective away from poverty.

Bamboo Shoots - A Growing Vision
What began in 2003 with a small preschool is today an important part of the educational landscape in several villages around Siem Reap. Through consistent support, our work has grown steadily.
First preschool & kids club in Kok Kryll
The foundation of our work was laid in Kok Kryll. Together with the village community, we opened the first small preschool and the Kids Club to offer children a safe place to learn and grow.
Expansion: Additional location Liang Dai
Expansion: Additional location in Liang Dai. We are expanding our services to provide even more children with access to education.
